Inheritance scam

How does it work?

You will receive a text, letter or email that claims to be from us. It will inform you that a relative has passed away and that you are entitled to funds from their savings account.

You may be asked to pay a fee and/or provide other documentation in order to claim the funds.

Who does it target?

Anyone can become a victim.

How to avoid this scam

Ignore any communication advising you that you are the beneficiary of a Birmingham Midshires savings fund. This type of communication will never come from us.

Do not pay any fees if you receive a communication of this kind. You will never have to pay fees to receive funds you are entitled to.

Gross rate means that we will not deduct tax automatically from your interest. You are responsible for paying any tax due to HM Revenue and Customs.

AER means Annual Equivalent Rate. AER illustrates what your interest rate would be if interest was paid and compounded each year and allows you to easily compare different offers.

Tax free is the contractual rate of interest payable where interest is exempt from income tax.
