Managing your account online

At Birmingham Midshires we're committed to looking after your security when you manage your money online.

Managing your savings online is easy and saves you time. But it needs to be secure as well. At Birmingham Midshires we've a number of online security measures in place:

  • Secure servers - your account information is stored on servers that only allow access to authorised users
  • Password protected login - so that only you can get access to your account information
  • Auto log off - if you've been inactive for a while, we'll automatically log you out
  • Account locking - if someone repeatedly tries to log on to your account with the wrong login details

In 2021, we will add extra steps to check it is really you when you use Internet Savings.

This will affect you when you do any of the following transactions.

  • Log on to Internet Savings
  • Activate/Re-activate your Internet Savings account
  • Change your linked bank account
  • Change where your interest is paid

If you do any of these things, you may notice an extra step in security. This is because you'll need to use two different ways of proving who you are. Your password and personal security details count as one way. The other way could be getting a passcode sent to your mobile, or us calling your landline.

If is very important we hold the correct contact details for you otherwise you won't be able to use your account online. You can find your current home or mobile or work telephone number on the Welcome Screen. If your numbers are incorrect or missing, please call us on 0345 602 2828. Lines are open 8am - 8pm Monday - Saturday.

Can I change my username?

Your username is unique and for this reason you're not allowed to change it.

I've forgotten my password, can I reset it?

You can reset your password online - as long as you can remember your username and the answers to your security questions. If you can't remember this information, call us on 0345 602 2828. Lines are open 8am - 8pm, Monday - Saturday.

I've forgotten my username, can you send me a reminder?

We sent you a username letter when you opened your account. If you don't have this letter any more, call us on 0345 602 2828. Lines are open 8am - 8pm, Monday - Saturday. We'll send your replacement username by post.

For security reasons, we can't give out your username over the phone.

I've logged on correctly, why can't I view a list of my accounts?

Call us on 0345 602 2828 and we'll help you. Lines are open 8am - 8pm Monday - Saturday.

Gross rate means that we will not deduct tax automatically from your interest. You are responsible for paying any tax due to HM Revenue and Customs.

AER means Annual Equivalent Rate. AER illustrates what your interest rate would be if interest was paid and compounded each year and allows you to easily compare different offers.

Tax free is the contractual rate of interest payable where interest is exempt from income tax.
